Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect VPN Instructions – Rev 05/2023 by AP
Palo Alto Networks “GlobalProtect” is the new app that Stellar will be using for VPN going forward. It provides more functionality and extensive security than the previous Cisco AnyConnect app. A prerequisite to using the new VPN is that you must be enrolled in Microsoft multi factor authentication (MFA).
- Go to your Start menu and locate the Palo Alto Networks folder and expand it.
- Once there, you may wish to pin the GlobalProtect app to your taskbar or Start menu for easy access in the future.
- Open the GlobalProtect app
- You should see the app open in the bottom right of your screen. It should already have a Portal address entered as gp1.stellarindustries.com. Click Connect
- You should be prompted to approve the connection using the Microsoft Authenticator app or other method you used to enroll in Microsoft MFA earlier. Note: You should only be prompted to MFA once per day with GlobalProtect.
- Another window should open asking you to verify your identity. Select the first option “Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app” to send a push notification to the app on your phone. If that method does not work, you can try one of the other methods listed if you setup your phone as a backup method.
- To make sure that you are connected, you can either open the app through System Tray (arrow pointing up) or open it again from the Start menu or taskbar. You should see that you are connected to a gateway. The name of the gateway will vary based upon a number of factors, but you should not need to change this, it should automatically connect you to the best one based off certain criteria.
